I could care less about the Golden Globes, the Tonys (well, I care about them, but not enough to watch them), and all the other awards shows. I care about the Emmys when something I like (something on the order of liking of, oh, ST:TNG, when I was a Trekkie) is nominated for a big award.

The Oscars are different. It was one of the few shows ever where my parents allowed us to eat dinner in front of the TV when I was growing up. (Off-hand, the only other show I can remember is Anne of Green Gables.) It's always been a group thing, and if I could find people willing to come over and make catcalls at outfits and guess at awards, I would. TV can be a group activity, if it's done right.
