Falling apart again...

My right knee has decided that it does not approve of this little scheme of mine, this "walking a lot every day" thing, especially the "walking quickly" bits. It's been clicking some, and aching, from "I just kinda feel funny" to "I can still walk but I'd appreciate knowing where my cat hid my walking stick."

Sadly, it's a bit of a catch-22 situation. As I'm relatively heavy, my knee is rebelling, but I won't reduce the load on the knee unless I walk enough to make a difference. Which I have been, despite the knee. It's in the category of "minor recurring annoyance", not "major crippling thing" as my foot injury was last summer (which was very bad for me, physically, since I couldn't walk, and I rely on walking to keep me healthy as well as for transportation). I intend to be sensible, though, and not go out of my way to do things to piss my knee off.

Have you been fitted at a good sports shoe place for walking shoes? Where they check your pronation and shoe wear patterns? 'Cause good walking shoes, while they'll cost ya, can make all the difference on your knees. I had some major knee pain when I was trying to get my walking distance up, and getting properly fitted in shoes with the right kind of support made a huge difference.

Also, you might want to look into supplements for your joints. I'd say what ones, but the name's escaping me at the moment. Chondritin or suchlike.

Much much sympathy. I am likewise heavy with a wonky knee, which I have finally tracked down to a combination of a fall last year plus no longer driving a manual transmission (I am NEVER getting an automatic again).

I have an exercise machine that will let me build my knee back up - if only my knee were in good enough shape that I could use it!
