Does anyone have a better word for this?
Using a handy resource on Greek roots, I put together techautosyntachyphobia for
witchofrock, who wanted to know if there was a word for "fear of sewing machines" (and trust me, bad sewing machines are a dreadfully fearsome thing!).
Deconstructed, it means "a machine that automatically puts things together fast (fear of this)".
I haven't played with etymologies much since CTY 95. It's been almost nine years. I miss the megatheopyrorhinocracy...

machine, to sew or stitch together, fear of. You may want to fiddle with the conjugation a little, but the root for sewing, rhapto, can be found here (http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/enggreek?). It's a lovely lexicon, far too technical for my occasional curiousity, but quite comprehensive.
Interestingly, the vast majority of the words dealing with sewing refered to stitching and/or suturing; surgery rather than textiles.
megatheopyrorhinocracy...
Large-god-fire-nose-government? I'm lost. ;-)
