Twiddled with things. Got Sorcha sharing the connection. All is good there. All is not good on Acknar, who is riddled with spyware (as Mr. XP downloads interesting things and had SpyBot S&D turned off for a bit) --

-- I learned this when I saw that pinging www.google.com was redirecting to 127.0.0.1, and that www.yahoo.com was redirecting to www.yahoo.akadns.com (I would not recommend that, from the sound of it...)

Oy.

Actually thats exactly where Yahoo is supposed to go. They have an Akamai style load distributor going on and the akadns shows up in most all traces.. Google going to localhost is most definately not normal though.

Aha. That makes sense. That makes me feel a lot better about the whole affair.

Turns out that the spyware blocker he's got has got Google pinned as a site that often behaves badly, and we're trying to figure out how to remove Google from that program's list of sites that behave badly...
