Lyrics plus Google -- wonderful things.

The song that I've been liking the beat of since I first heard it is "No One Knows", by Queens of the Stone Age. I love Google. Why did I not think of this two years or whatever ago when I liked the beat but could only remember fragments of lyrics and the music?

Sometimes, for a geek, I am still stuck in the stone age. But I was thinking of a more elaborate solution -- a music search engine, something that could take a fuzzy input of someone's guess at a tune, and see what came back. Or an image search engine, that could take an image input. (Does anyone know what the image that looks cross between a heart and a five-pointed star means? It's probably either religious or a band thing, but I have no clue which.)

I've seen systems over here (.uk) that work over mobile phones.. you play a bit of a track into the mike and it texts you back with the name and artist.. I don't know if it would work with a hummed or whistled tune, or whether it has to be the original (i.e. on the radio or something)..

Those are both common clinic projects at the school. One recent project was a "for the man" one whose presentation involved somebody getting up and humming happy birthday for the computer to guess. And vision is an elective where you learn how you'd make that image search engine. However, since most of those clinic projects are "for the man" you won't likely see the results yourself for many years.

The heart/star combo thing sounds like the logo for Bam Margera, a skater and MTV idiot/star.

Now that beat is gonna be back in my head all night, gerdammt!

I love the "skip" in that like all get out, strange I don't actually possess a recording yet...
