Fandom WTF: head is pasted on

I've been seeing an upswing in a certain kind of icon: an obvious and bad attempt at image manipulation, with a head on a body it clearly does not belong with. The caption involves a poorly spelled variation on "My head is pasted on!"

It's clearly in reference to something, in the same way that there were many icons spawned by [livejournal.com profile] cheekyweebisom's encounter with the illiterate troll friend of a CTY acquaintance.

So, what epic wank or other delightful event spawned the "my hed is pasted on oh yey!!1!" icons? Your out-of-the-loop-but-still-fen Lunatic is consumed with curiousity.

Hee. I don't remember the specifics, but it was in the LotR fandom. Someone reverted a photo to a sketch in Photoshop, and then claimed that it was an original, artistic sketch they did by hand. Drama ensued, and then there were "I met Billy (Boyd) and Elijah (Wood) and we hit it off fantastically and they said my fanfic was the best they ever read and blah blah shoot-me-now blah. Culminating in what was probably their husband or maintenance man with Billy Boyd's face/head pasted onto them as they laid in her bed. I'm not sure if she tried to pass it off as actually Billy in her bed or not, but it was just a terrible Photoshop job, so someone (I forget who, dammit) said -- I'm paraphrasing -- "I'm worried about Billy. He seems to have acquired a gut and he has that 'my hed is pasted on yay!' look to him.

Needless to say, it caught on.

*winces*

Please don't grade me on grammar/punctuation today. My mind is blown.

Heh. Me too. And your/you're/your'e (which I've seen, honest), my bugaboo. Though I'm bad about screwing up effect and affect so I typically use another word, usually to less-suitable eff... aff... whatever.

::dies laughing:: That's a great story.

I'm not really *in* fandom any more, so it has to be pretty wanky if it trickles down to me.

My favorite part was her insisting that the LotR cast thought that her real-person fic was the best they'd ever read. So many things wrong with an assertion like that. And then, masochist I am, I read one. I'm still looking for a really long ear swab so that I can get it back out.

[identity profile] grifyn.livejournal.com 2004-06-22 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I, too, am distressed by the unavailability of really long ear swabs.

"The long ear swab" joke started when [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj (sadist) started posting links to really abysmal Stargate:SG1 fic. I mean... BAD. Like I'm-going-to-need-a-Listerine-brainwash-and-a-Valium-after-that bad.

That bad (http://www.livejournal.com/users/nostalgia_lj/441973.html).

Bad grifyn! No cookie!

*awaits smiting by the LJ gods*

You could always use a nasopharynx swab.

Anyway, I can. (I need a "medical" icon.)

*whistles innocently*

Don't mind me; I'm on something of an icon-making spree today. *grin* But if you like it, it's yours.

CrystalWank! First occurrence of "hed pastede on yay!!1" is somewhere in the comments.

Also, on lj, [livejournal.com profile] crystalwank2004.

My husband once wanted me to attend a work picnic with Marina Sirtis' head pasted on. He claimed it would make him the envy of his co-workers. I told him I would only do it if he pasted on Harrison Ford's head. (Fair's fair!)

It all came to nothing, however. We decided the two would never be seen in public together, 'cause if the Star Wars and Star Trek 'verses met, the universe would probably implode under the sheer weight of the mixed fandom.

Truly!

Even scarier - when we got there we discovered everyone else had gone with our heads pasted on, so we spent all day trying to find each other in the crowd! *eg*
