Also: I wonder if there's a Fanon vs. Canon checklist going around? For example, Albus Dumbledore's brother. What's this about goats? Is that fanon or canon?

Aberforth Dumbledore and his inappropriateness involving a goat is canon. First book, I think.

Fourth book. I don't have it to hand, but it's after Rita Skeeter has excoriated Hagrid in The Daily Prophet and Hagrid is crying.

To cheer him up, Dumbledore mentions that his own brother was vilified in the press over the goats thing and never let it bother him.
