A comment I just made on Chef, subcluster 8

I immediately understand.

I'd never thought of LJ administration as LJ government before.

Well, it took me a long time to get used to reading "administration" as "the president and the personnel he has appointed".

I don't think of "administration" as "president and appointed top officials" unless it's in the form of "the $NAME Administration".

So in order for me to apply the same association to the administrative staff of LJ, it would have to be phrased in the form "the bradfitz Administration", or some such thing.

Also, to me (having grown up hearing the phrasing), it implies something that is subject to regular, normal change -- though I don't see Brad stepping down any time soon.

But what is the nature of LJ-government? It has a select group of people who Make Things Happen, a wider group of people who Help Things Along, a class of taxed citizenry, and a class of unwashed masses. Not quite an aristocracy. Some features are comparable to cultish hierarchies, but a theocracy, we ain't.

As a Permanent User, I'm probably some form of aristocrat, as well as one of those who help things along.

At the time, Chef, Subcluster 8, was having severe problems involving just such errors. There had been a post or three about it in the LJ troubleshooting comms.
