Laptop setbacks

Looks like even with the whole pay-gradually deal from Dell, I'm about half short for the shiny optimized laptop I really want.

So, pondering things over the weekend. I'm still determined that I really want a working laptop, and that it is feasible for me to get one, though I may have to hold off on the shiny.

Have you looked at the possibility of a refurbished/reconditioned/whatever laptop? They cost less, but from a good company they can actually be /more/ reliable (because of the higher level of QC testing), and Dell has an excellent reputation.

Most laptops aren't user-mod-friendly anyway, so I don't worry about that.

The one thing that gets my goat is the power cord. Those are a bitch.

Yeah, that would suck. Power cords should be universal for similar objects.
