Explanations: black clothing

So I was hanging out, and of course when that happens, you have to be prepared for things like the local kid looking at you quizzically and demanding to know why you're wearing black when you know full well that the largely-white cat is going to get white hair aaaaallll over you.

Leaving aside for the moment the fact that I wasn't thinking about the cat when I got dressed in the morning, I went for an explanation that was more global, and more topical to small boys, one that didn't include complex explanations of the gothic fashion sensibility.

"I like it. It's good for hiding in dark places ... like a ninja!"

This developed into a discussion of how to hide one's glow-in-the-dark-pale skin.

Ahhh, kids.

demanding to know why you're wearing black

You could always quote Simon R. Green: "Because they haven't invented a darker color yet."

(Yeah, probably not the original source, but the first time I saw that line was in one of the Nightside books. *grin*)

I got given a t-shirt with that (well, actually, 'I'm only wearing black until they invent something darker.') as a wedding present.

It was quite amusing.

To be the inverse of the sneaky hiding-in-shadows wearing-black look?

Neon Pink, though?

At least you won't need to worry about cars not seeing you at night... ;o)

I read what you'd originally said as 'Neon Pink Shirt', which is actually a bit less scary than Neon Pink Skirt.

I think you should get a black skirt with pink (or as close as you can get) EL wire. You can power 1-2 feet of EL wire from a tiny box with two 'button' batteries... (or up to five feet from a slightly bigger box with 1 AA battery).

I &heart; cool t-shirts. I just can't bring myself to fork over $20 for something that'll fade/unravel/sport holes in less than six months. (My inner cheapskate won't allow it.) An amusing side-note, though...turns my mostly-black wardrobe isn't mostly black. Color-blindness scores another one! (It's not a fashion faux pas, it's that I really *can't* tell I'm wearing a dark green dress with black stockings and pearl accessories.)

Most of my tshirts are just simple plain colours (and they all last more than six months - most of these are several years old), but I have a handful of 'cool' ones. The glow in the dark one from ThinkGeek is a favourite, as is the Sluggy tshirt. Both were gifts... actually, so was my ThinkGeek sweatshirt (which is great quality, but by the time Her Majesty's Customs and Excise took their bite turned out to be a lot more expensive than we'd realised).

So, basically, I buy myself simple and cheap, and every so often get something cool as a gift. I suspect that's true for a lot of people, and about more than just tshirts.

UV-reactive, at least, is the big 'in' for clubwear. Apparently.

We have some UV-reactive hair stuff to play with for next time we go to a club. Should be fun!

Is there such a thing as UV electroluminescent wire? That doesn't require a large power source.
