Link Soup & Randomness

Rant on Frienditto and why no one should be using this. If anyone on my friends-list has signed up for this service, please let me know.

Saturday, I probably won't be in pretty much all day: first, I have work; second, I have a housewarming party to attend after work.

[livejournal.com profile] amberfox: a proper cubicle needs a small stuffed penguin of some sort, scissors, a caffeine stash, a calendar suitable for writing/stabbing, and materials with which to look either very productive or at least very busy. The friendslist in general: what else is essential for a cubicle?

Randomly: I like it when hot and powerful geekboys who I admire tell me I'm beautiful.

When I was perhaps ten, and [livejournal.com profile] swallowtayle was using the little wooden tabletop loom, and I wanted to weave too because it looked cool, I took some Constructs and built my own little plastic loom. I'm not sure where the bookmark I made wound up. It may have gotten lost in the shuffle. I was very proud of myself.

Re: Amber's query:

Interesting. Perhaps it is because I do not work in a cubicle, but I have none of these items at my desk. *grin* Umm, except the materials with which to look productive and busy. Because I *am* really really busy most of the time. *grin* Hell, I don't always remember to take lunch. My calendar is kept in my email program, though. Our email software is a handydandy program. I *seldom* use scissors, and when I do need them, there's a pair over by the copier. I think I might have used them once in February. Maybe. *shrug* And there's plenty of caffeine sources in the kitchen. Not that caffeine does anything for me, but I drink plenty of it, anyway, because all my favourite drinks have caffeine. But it's about, oh, 20 paces, maybe, from my desk to the kitchen, where there's a coffeepot that usually has a pot of regular coffee and a pot of flavoured coffee hot and steaming (the flavour varies depending on the mood of the person who brewed it - we have vanilla nut, hazelnut, chocolate raspberry, and dutch chocolate almondine.) There's cocoa packets in the drawer, and multiple kinds of soda in the fridge - coke, diet coke, caff. free diet coke (we have dieters who avoid caffeine in the office, the freaks), mountain dew, diet mountain dew, dr. pepper, diet dr. pepper, caff. free diet dr. pepper, pepsi, diet pepsi, lipton brisk lemon tea, cherry vanilla dr. pepper, diet cherry vanilla dr. pepper...and I'm sure I'm forgetting something seriously obvious.

But no caffeine stash that resides at my desk. :)

What are daily essentials for *my* desk are pens, post-its (both the 1.5x2 and the 3x3 size), white-out TAPE, not liquid, date stamps, paper clips (small and large), and binder clips, tiny, small, and medium. (The large usually accumulate faster than I use them, because of the incoming paperwork.) Oh, I have an origami swan that Lauren made for me (it's made from shiny pink wrapping paper, I think), a collaged glass candle holder (co-worker Maggie made) that holds plastic paper clips that I don't use much, and occasional seasonal decorations.

My cubicle is clearly inadequate, due to a marked shortage of penguinitude. I do, OTOH, have an origami kangaroo looking at me with ears perked. (And, of course, a tiger!)

A proper cubicle also needs assorted small toys.

And, (flattering myself): You're beautiful. :-)
