Hot (or cold) Damn! Ice Wall.

This is a thing of beauty. Simple technology. Simple principle. Astoundingly lovely results. Home-grown Fairbanks wit. This is the sort of snark I grew up on, people.

Foxman's Raven, Winter 2003-04, created by John Reeves.

What was it? A freeform ice sculpture, which, by chance, was climbable.

How was it made? By pumping water up through two pipes in the middle of the ice, out through a couple nozzles, 24 hours per day.

Every winter, Kansas City. The city with the most fountains, per capita, in the entire world. (Any time any other city starts to come close, they build more. On purpose. They LIKE having that record.) There are two or three particular fountains that they leave running on purpose for the same reason. They don't put dye in the water of my favourite like that one obviously did, but there are lights under it that turn multiple colours that have a beautiful eerie effect under 6 feet of ice. I don't remember any others as clearly as the one that was on the road I drive regularly whenever I go visit, though I know there are several that are left running during the winter for ice art purposes.
