So, yeah. Figment's car's engine has more dead per cubic centimetre than a Monty Python parrot. He's very much not happy with himself right now.

Why is it that car troubles crop up when V's out of town? Good job she gets back tomorrow.

My sympathies. Hope it isn't terminal. I still haven't been able to face taking everything out of my poor car. but it needs to happen. *sigh*

Well, the engine's terminal, which is what happens when you run out of that much oil.

He's got a Saturn too. The body's still in really good shape except for the windows. I am to hope that the new engine makes it run a lot better.

I've heard Saturns have a thing for oil. Though it was the total trashing of the model I was looking at by Consumer Reports that made me decide to look for something else. I do like their no-dent thing though--my poor old car has scars everywhere.

The Figment is self-chastizing, and has made it very clear to me how very much his fault this is, so that I feel sanguine about offering sympathy and hugs. The "Well, you're never going to do THAT again, right?" question has been asked, and has been answered with the appropriate level of meepiness.

Part, unfortunately, of the issue was that because he had recently needed to replace all his tires (I'm not sure how old his old tires were, but they were distinctly old), he had removed the gear that usually was in the trunk of the car to make room for the tires, and had not yet put it back in.

But yes, enough oil is a good thing to have.

At least Figment did not drive his mother's van deliberately off road and onto an uncertainly packed snow machine trail in April in Fairbanks as my unlamented ex-fiance BJ did. (If you ever come across the Fairbanks clan Toole, RUN.)

His problem wasn't so much that he didn't want to respect the Lady's choices on things, but the fact that he was, as a snarky button I found put it, "Mr. Always Right", rather than Mr. Right. Even when he was demonstratably technically wrong, he insisted that he was Right.
