Online communities I have no problem being bitch enough to keep in line. (note_to_cat has not had too many problems since I kicked some of the chronic flamers and instituted the pyroviragoligarchy rules.) No, this one is offline, and face-to-face.

Here's a possible sign that you're addicted to LJ: Your main motivation for getting a laptop the last few minths (as opposed to the last 10 years) was to cruise LJ on the couch (that, i'm doing tonight for the FIRST TIME! RAWK!
um. /fangirl)
and to cruise LJ while on campus/in class at the Univ. of Louisville starting the 23rd.
Mine was nanowrimo, and the fact that my old machine was a very small desktop with an attached flatscreen rather than a computer that could be used on something like a lap.
One gets a tiny attached-flatscreen desktop by having a laptop develop a dodgy battery, a dodgy cord, and a near-unto-nonfunctional keyboard. Given also that it was a 'naughty-naught machine with all of a whopping 6gig hard drive ... so very time for an upgrade!!

Cat hair is a problem for you, too? One thing that i'm glad about with this laptop is that I can close it and keep the cat hair off, then store it so it probably won't get hair in/on it.
I liked my Dell when I had it, but Dell's on my shitlist w/ a bullet. The laptop i'm talking to you from now is an HP, and it was worth waiting a decade for.
The bulk of my experience with Compaqs is with some older models -- a little portable one that Dad owned back in the '80s (where "portable" meant "today we'd put wheels on it and call it a suitcase") and some pre-owned desktop ones that chugged along solidly.
Really? That's cool.... lol my experience as far as Compaqs are concerned were the 10 year old ones in the schools... it was a travesty. Of course, a 10 year old computer... esp. in a school, is not gonna' exactly be in the best condition anyway.... they were like something out of a bad B-movie :)
!!!!!! Hell, Dad's well-maintained Gateway 2000 (vintage 1994) is a nightmare, and it's been taken decent care of, except for the part where Mama never defrags.
Oh man, i'm a bear about that kind of thing. I always gotta' defrag and "Disc Cleanup" every so often. Nortons, Ad-Aware, Spyware Doctor, and Spybot: Search and Destroy are all run regularly.
Noone in this family knows shit about computers but me. No one besides me ran any time of defrag or cleanp or adware program on the desktop, and it was fucked up as a result. I didn't know about SD and S: S&D until about 2 months ago... the desktop was at a standstill, and I downloaded those 2 programs, and turns out I had 1,400 "infections" on the machine. I got rid of them, the desktop's speed doubled, and now I know that Nortons ain't perfect.
This laptop, however, is all mine, and the cretins will not touch it (and if they do, they won't get into it because it's locked. Can't be too careful.)

It's been that kind of night.

... you know, I don't go to work until noon. It's a good 12 hours. I may well, dammit.

I'd go for it. There's more than enough time to do that, get some sleep and get up in time for work.
