An accident on 19Th & indian school. 2 badly injured. Nothing I could do but pray. Hope is what makes the difference sometimes.

Somehow I believe that prayers, good thoughts, lit candles, etc. always seem to help at least a little.

I think so as well. I know two people who might have as easily been dead but for people being there for them and declaring it was not yet time and refusing to let go.
