Well, I suppose that might almost work if I could do the same with anyone wearing any of a couple hundred different chemical based scents (because those cause me severe nervous system reactions), but they always tell me that it is up to me to avoid them if it bothers me.
If there was this chemical-sniffing shield thing that could be activated around people with allergies, repelling anything carrying the problematical chemicals...
I think the better solutions would be technological, not legal.
I agree that the solutions would be better served at a technical level than a legal level. I'd also like to see a movement, or at least an availability, of a more 'organic' smoke. I switched to pipes for a while due to the _difficult_ availability of non-chemically altered tobacco, but gave it up due to a lack of manual dexterity. I am addicted to niccotine, I am also addicted to smoking. I love it.
I am aware that there are negative aspects to it for myself and other people, and I try to minimize them as much as possible, but.. I hate that at least some of those negative aspects are caused by chemical additives that serve no purpose.
I have the most problems with it at work. Most of my friends at work who smoke do not reek of smoke. When I'm generally well, I can stand at a conversational distance from friends who are smoking outside, and not have it bother me as long as I'm upwind.
But some people at work do reek of smoke when they come in, as if they'd been bathing in smoke essence, or (most likely) sealed in a vehicle that has been marinated in smoke for years. Some of them insist on standing very close to me.
It really sucks when that happens. The worst that generally happens to me is I start wheezing a little and turn green until I can get some fresh air. I probably look worse than I feel, heh.
