Looking Like Lain
The network is happy. The network is very happy. Why? Because Adam and I spent some time stringing up cable at least semi-properly, rather than having it drag over the most-travelled parts of the floor. Employed: one A/C system vent controller, two finishing nails, three hair elastics, two long lengths of Cat-5. Result: only people in Votania's room are going to be tripping over cable, because it's gong to be more difficult to avoid her floor when stringing cable.
Adam's still working on putting together the system in my room, and I've been working on laundry.

I made Nick do the crawlling and wiring the first time he lived here, and now that he's back I make him take care of all new jacks and the care and feeding of said Cat5 runs

My father wired our house himself, all nice and according to industry specs (we live out in the wild just-outside-of-suburbs of Fairbanks) by putting conduit on the walls exposed rather than things through the walls. Now that grey-tunnel-box is available and easier, he uses that. The inside of our house may look slightly like a circuit diagram, but it's better than the alternative, stray wires, and it's certainly easier to play with.
I doubt he's wired for Cat-5 yet, though, there being only three computers in the house and them all on the same wall of the downstairs.

Ahh, the good old days...almost makes me *want* to get roommates and rent a house. Hoping to rent a house on our own...but roommates can be way cool at times.
