Layoffs all over the place. I got to tell two people the bad news. This is on top of temps being let go back to be re-assigned.

What a lovely way to wish someone a joyous holiday season... That couldn't have been fun for you, Joan.

It was not.

I have the limited reassurance that we will be hiring again when business picks up (we just lost a major client to an under-bid) and laid-off will be eligible for re-hire, but it is strictly limited reassurance.

And it's not the relief that you get as a supervisor when an incompetent or extraordinarily difficult member of the workplace leaves. All these people are perfectly competent, some more than others. All the temps are leaving. We will miss the redheaded gayboy. We will miss the one lady who was on the other side of $ISSUE_SIDE_JOB from me. We will miss Charly's general cheer and good attitude. The Crazy Bus Stop Lady got laid off. The Scary Disagreeable Old Lady got laid off. (Rev. Not-So-Nice Super's take on it? "She's my racist." It's rather crucial in this case to note that caucasian supervisors are actually rather few and far between, and Rev. Not-So-Nice Super is the rule rather than the exception.)

I'm wondering if the One-Man Bald Nudity Crusade got laid off in all the fuss and muss. I know there have to be workplaces he'd fit in better than this one. Goodness gracious, he certainly would fit many places better than this one. And he could leave his hat on.
