LJ icon pet peeve.

There are all these gorgeous icons of someone, clearly some character from some show, in all sorts of poses and attitudes, capturing a full range of moods. Delightful. Or something that's probably very expressive if you know the show or the character.

And you're curious, and you go to the user's pics page to check out the comments on the icons, because you want to know what the backstory is.

And nothing in the icons even says what the character's name is. Not the character's name, not the actor's, not the episode, not the show, nothing.

I don't watch TV, though I do get some exposure at work. I haven't watched half the crucial movies. I don't even see the trailers for the current hot shows, because the TV in the work break room is tuned to CNN Headline News. I don't know the faces of these characters. I hear about them. I read about them. But unless I see the face and the name together, I don't know what that icon is supposed to mean other than the face value.

Honestly, I dont watch TV much eitehr. CSI, House and Lost are about it right now, and then only if the hubs has it on :)

I usually take the icons by face value. some make me laugh, even if I dont get the inside TV joke :)

Some are pretty obvious, but it's just annoying to know that there's probably another layer of meaning that you'd get if someone had thought to put the name of the show in the comments.

I find it a bit disapointing when I check out a users pic page and there's nothing to explain what it is too.

I usually just email the user to find out, or leave a comment on a post where they use it. I don't think I have who what is on my icon comments. Hmm.

Usually it's just randomly surfing around, like hop hop hop hop and wind up in some strange unusual corner of LJ, and I'd feel so very dreadfully awkward contacting someone under those circumstances.

Put 'em on if you want. Not the queen of LJ (yet) here! :-P

It seems to hit me at random moments. I try to catch it, delete, and re-reply, but I seem to have missed it this time.

One of the surefire ways to know it's going to happen is when the comment won't submit and you have to go back. If you have to go back, you have to re-select the comment you're replying to, even though it looks like it's replying there.
