I want to believe that he's doing this because he believes that it is the right thing. But once you're a legislator and you start saying, "You're not religious and you weren't a virgin, so your rape wasn't bad enough to traumatize you enough to not have to bear your rapist's child" ...

Now that I've had time to sleep on it, the thing that's echoing around in my head all huge with the echoes is "Who the hell does he think he is to judge how traumatized someone is based merely on their circumstances?"

Medically, no 12-year-old should be having kids.

But who's to say that a different person is any more capable of recovering from a trauma than another? And who's to say that physical violence is the only kind of abuse? I'd be hard-pressed to say who might stop cringing first, someone physically savaged or someone subjected to subtle whispers of poison until they were on the point of suicide.
