PSA: LJ downtime

status and lj_maintenance say that some craxx0rbitches with half-decent skillz got some zombies together and started nibbling away at LJ. Shotguns have been rounded up, and LJ staff is cheerily blasting away.

The undead should be cleared out of here in a while, but meanwhile hang tight.

Some liberties have been taken with the actual technical details, but that's what it boils down to. Sort of.

So was Typepad, apparently. The attack was aimed at everything Six Apart controls, not at LJ specifically.

Finally, the conspiracy theorists can say that yes, LJ did go down because 6A bought it!

A DDoS would likely take out/cripple their entire network. LJ is in the same facility as the rest of Six Apart's stuff.

Of course, it could be that an attack on LJ has taken out the rest of Six Apart. LJ's by far the highest profile product/service that they have.
