Chaos, again

Not so much imposing order on the jumble, or imposing disorder on the jumble, now.

It's finding the bouncy boundaries, knowing where the outer edges of the norms are, in order to have the result fall within. It's knowing what's an unusual value. It's not being able to predict from day to day what the outcome will be, but knowing in the long run what the options are.

It's knowing what inputs, what shocks to the system, will produce an outlying value, and how to tell an outlying value when it happens. About relying on the fuzzy logic in most biological systems to allow the pool ball to riccochet somewhere where it needs to be. It's about not having one fixed point target, but any one of innumerable points that would be equally good targets.

It's being able to work with either wing of the butterfly: downswing or upswing.
