Ruby needs a leash. Just having a means to post images as well as text and audio makes me that much happier. And OMG geeks being silly. MySpace pics & gf.
I might have to go back to post-by-email, since I can't find an LJ client that both works reliable and lets me friends-lock posts - and none of them support uploading images.
I wish LJ supported hosting video as well as linking to youtube - then we could vlog through LJ...
I just tried to upload a .3gp file (which is the sort of video you get out of many cameraphones), and while it let me upload with no errors, the file didn't appear in my gallery.
It shows up as a clapperboard in a weirdly-named gallery ('FB_in'), but it's not playing properly when I try to download it in browser. (QuickTime doesn't like whatever it's being presented with - I'm downloading it to see if it'll play directly in QuickTime - if LJ haven't messed with it, it should, since it was encoded in QuickTime...)
And the answer is no, so LJ have messed with the video. The filename extension has been changed to .mov (possibly because of the LJ thing of not properly storing filename extensions and relying on sometimes incorrect MIME data). If I change it back to .3gp it works.
So possibly this could work if LJ fixed the MIME type for .3gp to not be 'QuickTime'/'MOV', since .3gp is a different carrier format.
[00:47] Azz: any scrapbooky people know anything about why .3gp files have their extensions changed to .mov on upload? [00:48] twirl: Because SB is bent on world destruction
I'd suggest asking Support about this, 'cause what you're describing sounds on-crack.

I don't think there's an FAQ for this, either.
