The slashgirl has prevailed, so we're getting Cox. I was all over the bad jokes based on this earlier today in IRC. We will be having a very thick pipe. Tomorrow I start training on how to be a good lister-of-books-on-Amazon. There's a local Amazon bookshop in need of spare peoples, and I thought I might be spare. I needed a second job, right?

Reminds me of my days as an ISP tech. I once had someone who, the first time his modem dialed out, burst into hysterical tears; he thought that awful noise meant that he'd broken it. Thankfully I was well-known in my office for being incredibly understanding and maternal, at least where the customers were concerned.

I spent the last six months doing general product support for a large mobile phone manufacturer. We didn't do calls out and stuff like that, but that's about the level of your typical caller. For nearly two weeks we got calls directed to us through the IVR of one of the networks in the UK, and the level of idiocy skyrocketed. They have to select options for both the manufacturer and the specific model of phone, and yet we still got people coming on the phone screaming about their broken phone that was made by someone else.

I got a promotion to tech a month ago (although I've yet to be trained or do any actual work - it's been a good month), which is much nicer since general support filter out the worst of it. (Tech only handle queries regarding phone/PC connectivity for the most part.)
