holy fuck.

Vash got broken into(?) and everything in him was gone through. Nothing seems to be
missing. I know this because everything was all over everything, and the drivers
side doors were ajar. I ...

This is traumatic.

I really societally resent the fact that I'm feeling "lucky" that I "only had my car broken into". Because, you know, it could have been so much worse. Never mind that it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

It's not a societal reason that you're feeling lucky, it's a psychological reason. It's related to survivor's guilt. You came through a pretty traumatic event mostly unscathed, unlike other people.

I'm not trying to be insensitive, but why do you think it shouldn't have happened?

For the same reasons that other crimes of human need and greed shouldn't happen. If this were a utopia that we were living in, it wouldn't have happened. Compared to that (impossible) standard, it shouldn't happen to anyone.
