Released with v. quietness by the Shrubbery's administration, who were hoping it would be as effective as actual real sex-ed. Ha-ha. The curriculum did teach some stuff about diseases, and that was better than no education, which is to be expected. A real sex-ed curriculum will cover disease as well. On the other hand, the abstainence-only curriculum is associated with kids believing more incorrect information about the role of condoms in disease prevention.

LJ has maintenance happening starting in the next 10-15 minutes, so get some fic or go wank or something, because there won't be any useful content here until it's done.

I've seen a few versions. Best I found was on one of moonferret's (IIRC) userpics, and went like this: "I must not wank. Wank is the comm-killer. Wank is the little spooge that brings complete comm-bannination. I will face the post. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn my inner eye and see its truth. Where the wank would have gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

Hahahaha, now why does that not surprise me about the abstinence-only sex ed? XD And what's even funnier is what this one teenaged guy actually believed about how to use a male condom: "If I put it between a girl's legs, that will keep her from getting pregnant." His mother actually ended up having to show him how to properly use one, with a banana as a model. Good thing she wasn't part of the abstinence-only movement. XDDDDD

OMG... people having to rely on something other than LJ to provide their Friday night needs? 0_0;; Perish the thought! XD (But the above sentence rules! I love your way with words in it because it's so darn TRUE! :D )

And true to form, discussion in channel while LJ was down inevitably turned to the topic of porn and where to get it.

...which reminds me that one of the questions were about condom usage during the last year. The numbers of teens who had been using condoms at all times were the same.

...but I don't think they asked about _how_ they used condoms. That's an area where education does make a difference, because perfect use of condoms is not intuitive.

That sounds like the sort of thing that would be a public service commercial in a sane area. A demonstration with a condom and a banana.
