Posted using TxtLJ

I do not think that posting to LJ via text message on lunch break falls under the no blogging at work restriction, even if it is in their lunch room.

The question is, do your superiors think that too?

It's not company equipment, it's not on company time, and if it's not about the company then I don't think they've got any grounds to complain.

Not having grounds to doesn't always mean they won't, though. I've had bosses that expected you to follow any and all kinds of strange rules whenever you were on company property, regardless of whether or not you were on the clock.

True. I'll be glad when I stop working for an American company later this year. They seem to like ignoring UK employment legislation that forbids that sort of thing - and sack anyone who tries to organise a union to stand up to them.

Wow. That's...well, that's a bit excessive, and might even be illegal, depending on grounds of termination.

Sadly, there's ways of doing this sort of thing, and most people don't have the stomach to mount a legal fight over it.

My employer also tends to hire a lot of people from outside the UK (it's a multilingual call centre), and people who just want short-term work - both groups are easy to abuse.

Do they allow you to text message friends from company property? Livejournal is your friend, not your blog! Your friend is blogging for you :-P

Besides, it's not blogging...it's journaling. ;)

Agreed. Unless the employer requires you to have your cell phone turned off at all times you're on the premises, I say you should be free to do whatever you want with it on your time (although might wanna keep the NSFW calls out of earshot of any co-workers). XD
