Arr.
Newsworthy LJ changes: Updates to usability tracking, opt-out.
I know this is something that's been getting the userbase up in arms. If that's also your reaction, please consider using a cut-tag if ranting about this at any length. (Translation: I volunteer here, I haven't lost faith in LJ as a whole, and server admins please back me up, considering what they could be doing without telling anyone, this is rather minor.)
On to things of more import that aren't such old memes! I said we were moving soon. I didn't really anticipate that "soon" would be starting on Friday. (This is not going to be mass crunch-time moving. This is going to be a slow and gentle month-long move, with a few press-gangs and some overlap.) But we showed up, things happened, and so fast we were spindizzy, we were doing things! Power turns on there on the 21st, and turns off here on October 31st. Renter's insurance has happened.
Writers group took a hike to the new place! A good time was had by all, despite cappuccino-banging (bothering M) and headache (bothering Heather). I sat down with the notebook intending some form of angsty religious love poetry, and came out with yet another embryonic slice-of-life-with-a-twist story-to-novel seeds. Anyone who recognizes personality tags of theirs? It's really not you in there. Or if it is, it's a seriously AU you, so not really you. *glances in a few furtive directions*

Now that I'm in town, I would be receptive to joining your writing group - if that is appropriate.
Hope you have an awesome day tomorrow!

I know right now we're in a lot of flux, but there's still a whole lot of creativity going on.

But most sites also don't a) let you know they're doing it, b) provide a method of opting out at all, and c) use much more intrusive, nosy measures.
People getting up in arms don't understand what the jargon "web analytics" means, and admittedly the post didn't provide the information in a non-scary, non-technical way. So naturally people freaked out instead of looking it up.
(That said: if you're so freaked out about LJ tracking what you're looking at and what you're writing, why are you trusting them with your private entries anyway? If you've lost that level of trust, you need to take your "private" data elsewhere; LJ could (but isn't!) be doing much more than figuring out with anonymized, aggregated stats how you browse the website...)
