azurelunatic: How many LJ users does it take to change a lightbulb? 5001. One to change it, 5000 to say they liked the old one better. (lightbulb)

http://www.sup.com/en/contacts.html has information on it that would be useful if one wanted to contact SUP management for any reason. Say, to talk about recent (upper) management-level decisions at LiveJournal. (stolen blatantly from [livejournal.com profile] idonotlikepeas, via a few people)

I think it may already be too late.

It is too late. I just tried.

Dare I ask?

What. The fuck! >.<;;

If everyone else's sudden posts about this subject is any indication, I guess it was only a matter of time. I hope that enough of us write in and can convince the management to change its collective mind. >.<

[identity profile] gameboyguy13.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Depends on how people write in.

*sigh* Why is it that the ones who were LEAST involved with the decision-making process AND the concealment of it until after the fact, have to deal with the fallout? >.<;; Damn!

ETA (well after the fact by now): I now know who you actually meant. ^^;; I had foolishly assumed that by "Fearless Leader," you meant someone entirely different (as in someone on one of our teams). The one to whom (I think) you refer, I had never even heard of before, and I hadn't been following the news threads. ^^;; My apologies for any confusion I may have caused here due to my own ignorance of the situation and my misunderstanding of it.

Oh, cute. So if you have a "free" account now, you aren't allowed to have it without advertising?

This just gets better and better every day, don't it.

[identity profile] gameboyguy13.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
For new accounts, yes. Old basic/free accounts aren't being converted.

[identity profile] lady-angelina.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
What [livejournal.com profile] gameboyguy13 said. Also, after a bit of testing to make sure, it looks like an account that existed prior to the change and is currently Plus level, can still be switched to Basic and vice versa. This change applies only to new accounts that didn't previously exist.

Still... I agree, this sucks ass. >.<

[identity profile] raranax.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
sigh. It is bad enough that I have to see the adds on other people plus accounts.

Firefox + AdblockPlus = Adfree every webpage, including LJ, no matter what = LOVE!

so as long as I'm me, I won't see ads.

Which, unfortunately, also means that if you're logged out (cookie expired, you clicked Logout, random glitch, whatever) - ads. Permanent account or not. Because if doesn't know your account level until you've logged in.

I wish that when they had introduced ads, they'd be shown only to Plus users. Not even to Basic users who're reading a Plus account, let alone on the logged-ou main page. But ah well. That's all water down the stream.

You people are assuming that upper management gives a shit about what users really think.

All the bellyaching in the world isn't going to change this decision.

SUP acquired LJ for one reason and one reason only - to make money. Free accounts don't make money.

If I were a permanent account holder, I'd start getting nervous. You folks are only slightly less money making than free accounts.

"slightly more money making", I meant to say

Free accounts don't make money.

As [livejournal.com profile] azurelunatic said by pointing to [livejournal.com profile] brad's post - maybe not directly.

But if free accounts go away and take their content with them, there'll be a number of paid account users who'll no longer see the point, if much of their community is gone.
