Profile

So, yes, all the buzz is the new profile design for LJ, which takes the same information that was on the old profile and makes it actually visible.

I really like it. I hear that other people really, really, really don't.

As a favor to me, if you're so inclined to drop by [livejournal.com profile] lj_design with your feedback, please do describe the things about it that irk you in as much detail as you can, leaving out as much of the inflammatory language as you can. Knowing what's wrong with it in more detail than "it sucks" is helpful, and can possibly lead to fewer of the things that trigger the suckitude reaction. Cursing at designers, staff, and volunteers is not helpful, and helps widen the rift. Since reaching out and attempting to serve as a liaison between general users and the people who keep LJ running is sort of what I do, in ways that are both formal and informal, it does not make my life easier.

If there's anything that rocks, of course, feel free to share that too. ;)

So. Um. How about those politics?

LJ missed the boat there; they should have pushed the release out on the evening of the third :)

Me too. But I don't remember it as being particularly pretty either.

I have posted. No inflammatory language. Except possibly in the eyes of those who find outrage in the idea of someone actually liking the changes.

The problem is that it's hard to describe why people don't like it. Yes, it's really useful, but it's ugly, particularly the big long lines across the screen, particularly if you have an omg huge monitor like I do at work. If you've gone to a lot of schools there is also a huge amount of white space under your name that doesn't look good. And I have.

Mind you, I read it in Lanzelot, which has lines across the page as part of the design, but they're not these skinny-mini little lines, they have some character.

I think it may also be breaking some of the css/html stuff people put in their bios sometimes.

I don't mind it.

I like that it pulls every single bit of information I care about and want to know most together and puts it up front right where I can see it, parse it, and move on.

Might not be the best looking thing ever, but I'm not too bothered.

I love my Dystopia Lanzelot! It means I don't see the site scheme stuff, and I ?style=mine just about everything else.

Have wished more times than I can count that the internet had a ?style=mine.

Oh god politics. FIGHT IS NOT OVER. I mean, um, yeah!

Give me a week to think something about it other than "it's new, therefore it automatically sucks." :)
