Crackfic, the Internet, and the Gay Denny's

Met up with [livejournal.com profile] emptybackpack at the Gay Denny's. A cracking good time was had by all. When people from the internet get together face-to-face, what do we talk about? That's right: the internet!

I got off to a dizzy and late start, given that I had not been able to get to sleep until far too late, but my alarm went off at an hour appropriate to the appointment. I did eventually wind up at Denny's, though, and in a reasonably timely fashion given the circumstances. I didn't get much done before that, however. I had to go back for the Bag of Random Cosmetics after refueling the car, as I'd completely forgotten it.

Some of the things that came up:

Gallant is Aroused; Goofus is Horny
Pretty much all of these are the result of dares.
"The Prisoner"
Super Collapse
something scary and cracky that was abandoned in '03-ish ( # = beta )
that time with the pillow
The Problem with Wikipedia, the way that fic replaces some library books, the thing where you open fic and then read it days or weeks later and you're not sure where it came from because it's just in a tab there, dramatic readings of bizarre bits of fic for purposes of revenge, and NAKED STARGAETS.

Hooray for the internet! Hooray for hanging out with people from the internet. There will be People from the Internet in San Francisco, but they won't be the same people from the internet.

... I grew up with a subscription to Highlights magazine.
I think you just broke my brain.

My roommate also grew up with Highlights. I showed this to him.
At about the point that pants came off, Mr. Jessi demanded that I be the one to read it, and read aloud the most humorous parts, to save him from reading gay slash.

And as an aside, after some particularly tension filled scenes in our D&D game, the DM has begun to demand slashfic of one of the characters with some of the NPCs.

So, I don't actually google myself, because I'm boring, but I do occassionally google my awkward special needs child, Gallant is Aroused, Goofus is Horny.

I think actual people talking about it in real space is even more awesome than the online threads about how I've crafted the worst piece of fiction ever to exist. And there's not much more awesome than that!
