You'd think they'd have enough self-preservation instincts to be a bit leery of out-of-state plates, but they sound an awful lot like Houston drivers to me, so I'm not surprised.

The details of the particular common idiocies differ between the cities, but yes, Houston drivers and LA drivers (the CA types I'm most familiar with) do share a breathtakingly-suicidal disregard of the possibility that those other folk on the road might not always behave exactly as desired. (A foot of clearance front-and-back while changing from a lane going 50mph to one going 75? *Plenty* of space!)
