Wednesday, 2330: "washing machine noises" are a warning sign for future hurking when they're coming from the dog and not from a washing machine.

Hullo! Background: I work as an assistant for a veterinary internist. Only 1.5 years, but I've learned some stuff. One of these things is there's a definite difference between vomiting and regurgitation. Vomiting requires abdominal involvement, it's an active process. It requires effort to bring up the stomach contents. Regurgitation is more sudden and has less effort. More just "lalala-bleurgh!" as opposed to the vomiting which is "hork-hork-hork! hork-hork-hork! bleurgh!" Dogs can regurg. from eating too fast, and it's not that uncommon. If you need to save on the vet expenses, see if Deacon is vomiting or regurging his meals - both can be worrisome, but mean different things. And your vet may thank you for knowing the difference, who knows! LOL Just make sure either way that he's getting (and keeping down) enough water.

It looks like regurgitation, especially because it's so soon after eating. My aunt is keeping an eye on it and has stopped feeding him anything besides dog food to eliminate food-based possibilities. (This also means not giving him the arthritis meds, which are pretty new, so he's not enjoying the return of his stiff and sore joints.)

He's doing fine with water though, and didn't hork up his supper last night, nor his breakfast this morning.

my own kitty is a 'panic eater' - if he can see the bottom of the food bowl, when we refill it he eats too fast and then horks it up. (sadly, I watch him do it and although it ought to be regurgitation, it seems to be actual vomiting) It's not that common in cats. *sigh* I know the pain of after-meal horking.

Of course, now that my aunt has pulled his meds in the case that they are causing horking, he is a very stiff and unhappy Deacon, and that is very sad to see. I'm hoping that with less horking she can re-introduce them, because he's finding it hard to get up.

poor pup. hopefully it's not the meds causing the horking, 'cause that's not a good choice to have to make. Vomit or pain? ooof.

He was in enough general woe that I'm pretty sure my cousin broke out the meds. We're watching for horking now.
