azurelunatic: Stone relief of Enki creating rivers. "Wank me a RIVER" (Enki)

Lovely place, but oh sweet Enki their website

So I met up with Chemla and we went to the Jewel Box Cafe for tea, in varying definitions of "tea". The cafe is lovely, and I recommend it without hesitation (at least from the small experience I had visiting it).

However. Chemla grabbed me their business card, and from their business card I got their website. Here it is: http://www.jewelboxcafe.net/home_jewelbox.html

Wall of shame: this is a bad website. It is very pretty. It has pictures of the location, and it says "Menu" and such, and it has the location's address and contact information.

One big problem: the "links" are not clickable, and, in fact, the whole page is just one big image.

1) where are those links?
2) what about my aging eyes and my ability to copy/paste that shit?
3) lolno.

Behold the current source code:

This is my favoritest sucky website ever, because when the page first loads it looks fine, and then you're all click click WTF? click and then OMG THE PUNCH LINE.

Hrm, on the www subdomain, some things are clickable since it's an image map. I wonder if that's what they meant to do with the other ones, and failed?

I'm so old; that was my first thought. And then "ok, they're using some weird plugin, I will open it in Firefox which I only use for weird-plugin sites, because it'll fall over on a regular basis anyway" - nope.

My code reading skills are marginal at best and even I can tell that's fucked up.

Smooth.

Yo dawg, I herd you like hyperlinks, so I put hyperlinks in your body so you can click while you surf.

Except, you know, not.

Ye gods--I have looked at the credited web "design" company that's in the footer:

http://scuttlebird.com/webpricing.php

How much? Sure, for a legit set of sites that'd be reasonable value, but I'm guessing they went for the $350 option there...

Offer to give them a real webpage for a year's worth of free tea or something (depending on how often you'd be there)?

You'd probably need less than the HTML in a typical journal entry to make that poster into a site.

That is beautiful in its fail.

I like to believe that they thought the links must be clickable because, you know, it's the internet. That's how it works! You click on words and it takes you to other pages!

It looks like they were using the "Photoshop mockup given to a Web programmer" method of site creation, but used the null Web programmer.

What's confusing to me is that the designer's other projects actually have text on them..
