migration

(Those of you who use only Dreamwidth, or only LiveJournal, can skip this, unless you're only on Dreamwidth and know I still read your LJ and you're sort of wondering why.)

For those of you who use both LiveJournal and Dreamwidth, which of you intend to be cross-posting everything? I am looking to consolidate things a bit, and it should be no surprise that I intend to make Dreamwidth my primary reading page.

I do tend to wander back and forth between the comments sections hither and yon depending on the discussion. Crosslinking makes me happy. Yay crosslinks!

Anyone reading me on Dreamwidth can safely take me out of their LiveJournal Default View group. I will have crosslinks enabled as long as I have the possibility of comments in both places to crosslink to.

I cross post all DW, but I do post things on LJ that are LJ only, seeing as some people are very hesitant to move to this service.

I will never post LJ only things, I *might* post DW only things -- but otherwise I crosspost everything

[personal profile] axelrod 2010-09-24 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
I crosspost everyting, will continue to do so for the time being, and will sooner or later leave LJ (who knows when).

I crosspost everything. I might post DW-only if I were making a locked post here, but I do that rarely, and that's not what's at issue here anyway. I can't think of any situation where I'd post LJ-only, except if I needed a test post to test something, but then it would be private if possible or deleted as soon as I'm done.

Also, as of the next time I get enough of the right kind of mental cultery to write a post about anything, no comments on the LJ side.

The only things I'm going to be routinely posting to my personal lj that aren't x-posted are probably birthday greetings for the lj only crowd.

Somewhat academic given my recent posting levels, but: I will be crossposting most things, but I won't be using the DW crossposter. I will try to put links in, but if I'm pushed for time or energy it might slide, or I might prioritise linking to the DW entry from the LJ one (to remind the LJ-only folk on my flist that I'm over here, too). Commenting will be open on both sites.

There will probably be some entries that I'll only post on one site or the other. F'rinstance, it feels weird to me to post LJ PSAs on my DW >_>

I may revise these policies in the future, but I can't see that happening any time soon.

tl;dr: Right now, if you want it all, you'll probably want to follow me on both sites. But if you only follow me here, you probably won't miss much.

I don't crosspost (or post) to DW. If it changes in the future, I'll say something in my journal. :)

What I do is post a few things to DW, most of my main content on LJ, and a catchup post on DW that links to LJ anchor posts. But about once a month, use the import tool to port over all my LJ stuff.

I added a DW account in case LJ ever becomes completely uninhabitable.

You've already been removed from the LJ Default View, as has everyone who has a DW account and cross-posts.

I do cross-post to LJ *at times*. I do not always cross-post. However, if there are any discrepancies between LJ and DW, DW is the place to be. If I post anything unique to LJ, it will be a brief two-paragraph summary of multiple DW entries, with a caveat and links to DW for the juicy details (though that hasn't happened yet). I have also decided to switch to footers at LJ in the future, in the hopes of getting people to come over to DW.

(BTW, arkeiryn has switched over as well, in case you were unaware. Slowly but surely, the Dark Side will win. Muahahaha! Hey, after all, we have cookies!)

I crosspost most things, but there is some Dreamwidth-only stuff. No commenting on LJ. This is 100% where to read me.

I pretty much crosspost everything, but occasionally there will be posts that are only made on LJ for whatever reason - most commonly, PSAs regarding LJ that I think are important enough to include repost buttons, or times when I can't get to Dreamwidth for some reason.

The problem is that my LJ gets a lot of comments that aren't on DW. I've been strongly considering closing LJ comments and rewriting my footer to make it easier for people to get to the DW comments and post there, but the number of comments I get on LJ and the fact that I've seen people complaining about DW's OpenID implementation both give me pause.

This post has, however, made me realise the reason that I wasn't seeing the links for the LJ crossposts on my own DW entries - it's because I hadn't turned on the option to do so, since I set up my crossposting before the option even existed. I've just turned it on, so future entries will include the LJ links for those that have access to them.

I currently use LJ for a fandom we don't share and the very rare offline life update and DW for things I have whatever reason not to post on LJ, though I always intend to be a bit better about crossposting.

[identity profile] ladyofthelog.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I cross-post everything except for LJ specific entries (like the code that fixed my layout when Facebook/Twitter shenanigan occurred). If you want to see that, keep me friended here, but otherwise, you should be all set over at DW. I guess I should figure out this Default Friends View thing after, what, nine years...

I don't crosspost my main entries to DW yet, although that could change at some point (IOW, I haven't been arsed to go into the settings on Semagic).

Same here. I do occasionally do the manual post duplication using the web interfaces.

I really do need to get around to taking the DW cross-posters off my LJ Default View. Maybe this weekend?

[identity profile] coraa.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
I crosspost everything, and have crosslinks, so it doesn't matter where you read me. :)

I don't crosspost, and don't intend to start in the near future.

I don't intend to actively use Dreamwidth in the foreseeable future, because the community is not there yet. :p

I rarely use my DW account, but that's mainly for two reasosns: 1. I have a permanent account here on LJ that I don't want to give up, and 2. the RP I'm in is on LJ, though I might migrate to DW if it did so, too.

Even so, I haven't even been using my personal journal here much anymore, as you've probably noticed. XD; Needless to say, I probably won't be crossposting anything.
