cleverthylacine and I are planning to go to the Lois appearance at Books Inc. tomorrow night. I really am not that good at scheduling social events outside of the usual range of people I hang out with, but would be pleased to meet anyone who shows up. Though I'm very epically bad at remembering either names or faces, or putting either of these together.

I am planning to go to the reading/signing too. I am in Berkeley. I would love to join the two of you for dinner, if that is ok for you, or otherwise just meet at the bookshop.

Is there any way I could join up with you to somewhere along the ride? Is the restaurant near public transport?

We don't have reservations, although since that might be a good idea, that might change. We should be able to recognize each other now. I'm likely to be in black and silver.

"Chick" works perfectly well for me for physically descriptive purposes! Though for indoor evening events I tend to wind up hatless.

My husband would be deeply jealous! He's read nearly everything of hers. I still need to get on the Bujold wagon. Soon, soon.

I recommend starting with Shards of Honor (or Cordelia's Honor, if it's what you have) and proceeding chronologically by timeline order, and swinging around to take in Falling Free sometime before Diplomatic Immunity. Though you can certainly also read in original publication order. However, one does need to read Brothers in Arms before Mirror Dance, and should read The Warrior's Apprentice before Brothers in Arms.

Science fiction aside, I strongly recommend Paladin of Souls based off of what-all I know of your interests.

I have The Curse of Chalion down as my first To Read because I'm not primarily a SciFi person, though Paladin of Souls has been in the back of my head as well, and we own both. Despite the Not A SciFi Person thing, the other book already on my GoodReads To Read list is Cordelia's Honor because people seem to voraciously consume the whole Vorkosigan saga thing and I would like to feel as if I know why.

The To Read list is long, but it's almost exclusively books we already own and it's a life list of sorts. Still, I'm starting to move through it more quickly. I'm pleased.

The Curse of Chalion is very good, and helps set things up very nicely for Paladin of Souls.

I'm not familiar with your interests, but I recommend PoS to almost everyone. It's just lovely. The previous novel, Curse of Chalion, is not required to understand what's going on, but it's good, too. Almost as good, in my opinion, though some people like it better. (It's close, anyway.) The third book, The Hallowed Hunt, isn't nearly as good in my opinion, though it's still better than a lot of people's best work. (For reference, I just finished re-reading the set in skewed order, PoS, CoC, HH. Now I'm poking at a zombie novel, Feed, but I'm seriously considering putting it aside for another go at PoS. *grin* It's just that good.)
