I'm another one of the pidgin evangelists. I have an aversion to bells and whistles and all things shiny, so it is by far my preferred IM client. And now that I figured out how to tweet from it, there's nothing that could tear me away. But last year some time there was an issue where I couldn't connect to AIM at all, and it had to do with the AIM network changing the requirements for connecting. I unclicked one box and it worked great.
