My dears, is this a valid analogy? /b/ : boys :: ONTD : girls

Yes.

Yes, of course the topics are totally different, and all the social details and culture are different, but their place in the culture and the general social thing (I fail at words today) is the same. Just as LJ-DW-FFnet-ONTD is much the equivalent of Slashdot-4chan-ED-/b/. (I may have picked the wrong sites, but I'm sure you get the idea.) And although there are exceptions to both gender stereotypes, the majority of girls tend towards the first group and the majority of boys tend towards the second group.

Also (and this is possibly a rant for another day) both have very strict social rules, are bad at admitting that they have those rules, insist that they are inclusive and the other is exclusive and sexist and prejudiced and evil while they are all sweetness and light (or freedom and OSS, if you prefer to phrase it that way). When in fact, both are very sympathetic to anyone who keeps the rules, and rather cruel to anyone who breaks them. And neither set of rules are exactly well documented or easy for a newbie to find out.

Slashdot: "Better Tools for Disabled Geeks?" http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/09/06/14/2143205/Better-Tools-For-Disabled-Geeks?from=rss

Well, it's good that they're talking about it. The comments seem to be a mix of fail and useful links.

I think it is a valid analogy.
