LJ Advisory Board Elections

Nominations are going on. So far there is one person who has hit the required 300 comments to be let into the election. No prizes for guessing. There's one other person who's close, and some of my assorted friends are in support of them.

Even though I don't have a lot of personal investment in the outcome of the elections, unlike last year, when I hoped that the representative would be allowed to make a difference, I'd still like this to not be a one-player race.

Nominations close Friday.

This is just the nominations round -- you may support as many people as you'd like.

As far as I can tell, the user representative position is intended to not be so much an advisory for SUP regarding user issues, but a convenient pressure release valve for users. Energy users spend on lobbying the user representative is LJ energy saved by not having to deal with as much direct lobbying. And there's the additional possible bonus of getting a user rep that might also do work on soothing upset users with knowledgeable justifications.

Yeah, well... regardless, I know I don't want J----- or C------ to be the ones to do this. =X And one of those two is running again this year (don't know about the other one yet because I haven't checked back since the other day).

If the other one is who I think you mean, I think I saw them mention in comments on the news post that they wouldn't be running this year.

Ahhh. Thank goodness. The idea of being harassed again by him almost a year after the fact doesn't quite appeal to me. =X

And thanks! I rarely read [livejournal.com profile] news comments (I see enough wank from my own local newspaper's commentary section to last several lifetimes).

C isn't running, so that's not a possibility. J would win against him anyway, I think, and I think he's going to win the election. And I don't think I mind. It's not like the user representative has any real power. He can't actually change any policies. And he has some upsides, too.

A man that takes a photolog of his poop would be pretty certain to let us know about all the shit that's going on with the AB to the fullest extent possible, and I admit that I'm kind of curious to know what's actually going on. If he gets elected and no information is forthwith, then I know something, too--that the NDA is really a bitch. But I don't think it's so much of a bitch that it demands radio silence--I know the Russian rep did interact. (I also know that an interacting rep doesn't garner more excitement in the process, as [livejournal.com profile] lj_election_ru's spread of viable candidates is just as sparse as [livejournal.com profile] lj_election_en.

Secondly, I'm pretty sure he can handle the slog of muck the position seems to bring, which is the other cause of radio silence. His disposition and apparent surfeit of time for internet minutia means it won't phase him to get zerg rushed by angry and abusive commenters during times of high tide LJ drama. Some of that drama he might make himself, but that's okay with me.

From what I remember about his platform last year, his goals are reasonable. He knows the AB can only affect little things, and that it can't perform any kind of magic like getting rid of ads or making the servers run on sugar sprinkles instead of money. And despite his flippance, he is a power user of LJ, and although mainly this position is for the lulz, he's bound to have some core sentimentality for the service that also manifests itself. Having somebody who's not as emotionally invested in trying to really accomplish stuff with the position is probably a good thing, considering.

I pretty much only have one worry, and that's whether or not he'd peacefully coexist with Support. They're already scrambling as is, and they can't afford for him to piss off people and stop doing Support.

that makes me _want_ to vote for J, because it sounds like J and SUP deserve each other.

Do you think it will make any difference whatsoever? Sadly, I have seen absolutely nothing about the current advisory board since the elections last year.

Do we have anyone we're supporting?

Hm.

I am... concerned, but I feel like I should be more so.

There's one other person who's close, and some of my assorted friends are in support of them.

If that's who I'm thinking of, they now have over 300 comments in support, too.

I just read the ED article on J...I'm sure some of it is made up, but if even half of it is true, that guy is a fucking nutter. How'd he become so e-popular again?

[identity profile] mayerman.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
*can't figure out who e is*

I'm not sure who C is up in the earlier comments either >_> Clearly I don't pay enough attention to news etc.

Given "in the election", I presume Azz meant one of the posters on http://community.livejournal.com/lj_election_en/2009/06/. And there's only one there that starts eith 'e' followed by five letters.
