A term of art from a previous job of jd's, the cheerful and friendly tone of voice that sounds like you're smiling when talking.

Experienced call centre drones can pull off that tone of voice while still remaining entirely dead in the eyes. It's a terrifying thing to watch.

Thankfully, it's been an extremely long time since I've had to put on the voice. I was >< this close to applying for call centre drone work, too. Lucky escape.
