HAHAHA, small worlds. I followed your link to the Angry Black Woman blog and found your comment about Uhura's Song. That is the EXACT same book that forged the beginnings of my stance of individuals and their names. (A coworker once asked me why I always called him the full version of his first name rather than the shortened one everyone else used. I reminded him that he'd introduced himself to me by the full, and therefore, as far as I was concerned, that was the name I was intended to use.)

It just makes so much sense! Anyone who insists on calling you a name other than your choice is exerting power over you, and that's not always a good thing.
