Apparently some of us are synchronizing.

Since I've seen at least three separate people mention this sort of thing today, and I myself am having that sort of week...

Some months ago I was poking about the internet and looking at cloth pads, and then I had a sticker shock moment when I saw exactly how much the gear I was looking at actually cost. Being fairly broke at that point in time (a recurring condition) I decided that since I'd been whipping out the needle and thread fairly often lately, I should engage in some DIY.

I folded a soft old washcloth in thirds, found some underwear I was willing to sacrifice to the cause, and stitched the washcloth to the underwear. It worked better than I had expected, and I made some more. At first I soaked them prior to washing, but then I got lazy. They do stain, but I have not needed to do anything out of the ordinary in my laundry routine* just to get them clean.

I still have some of the newfangled space-age thin super-absorbent pads, which I use on occasion when I know I'm going to be out a long time and there's a chance of jellyfish, because the sewn-in nature of the washcloth pads mean that I chuck the whole pair of underpants in the wash when the pad is in need of changing, but for light flow, at home, and overnight, they are more comfortable than anything else I've used, disposable cup included.

* I have a washer/dryer combo launderizer in my apartment, so I do not have to have dirty laundry sitting around becoming unpleasant. If I had to take my laundry out to wash, I might reconsider the soaking thing.

I should have all three of you sit in a circle around me so as to start mine up again, so that evil gyno will not try to make me take hormones on account of my periods having stopped.

Apparently my T is too high. But I'm happier with high T. I LIKE testosterone, apparently.

And I don't miss the periods. And if they're worried about uterine problems they can just take the damn thing out, I'm not using it. Hormonal drugs make me weepy and occasionally suicidal, do not want.

But they look at me like I beamed down from Mars when I say, "Take my uterus...please."

If there's a rune for that, I'd go for it. Just so they'll shut up :D

Hm, yeah, it didn't last long but I spotted--with different intent and location that might very well work :)

My sister has hers usually every 3 months, sometimes as long as every 6. She went to the doctor about it once, and after 3 pregnancy tests, the doctor told her that if it bothered her, she should drop by and ask for some hormone pills to kick one off, but not to worry about it otherwise. They seem to be related to stress, since she gets them at quarter-end for her job.

As for myself, I've settled into monthly and I'm vaguely pissed about it. The only upside is that it reminds me to get my psych meds refilled. The downside is that they come every 4 weeks and last for 2 weeks, which I could really fucking do without. I have fond memories of not having to deal with this nonsense. If I'm not planning on using it, it can fuck off and stop bothering me.

Thanks to our god of the nuvaring, I get one every month or so. For like three days.

BEST thing EVER. And it is a localized hormone, so none of the pill issues, all the fun side effects.

Downside: you have to get over the hurdle of using the nuvaring in the first place. Once you do that....

Turns out hormonal birth control makes me deathly ill after a couple of months, plus for extra fun I start bleeding constantly. (Waiting for the Depo shot to wear off was Fun.) Currently I'm lobbying for an IUD, but trying to get one as an unmarried woman is cranky-making so far.

Much much easier.

Once it goes up, it don't come down. If it does start to work out, well, it's not going to result in a bloody mess- just a need to reinsert.
