I think of myself as "fannish" about media that have something like characters and storylines (text, (web)comic, video, rpg)

WHEE TICKIES.

...Also it amuses me that I can legit tick all the tickies bar "created an AU of an AU" for "fanworks involvement". Guess longtime fandom involvement is good for something? xDDD

I'm honestly a little sad that I couldn't ticky any in the last section. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG WOE. xD

I (and well, we) have lots of stuff that is awesome and exists for canon of stuff … only in my head. But then again you and [personal profile] sithjawa have been influences on me, tooooo.

...you know, I'm actually revising a paper where I might want to borrow some of these percentages to cite. But no individual-level detail--just "most people say this! [azurelunatic, 2012]"

(All other interaction with this poll: postponed until I'm not at work. *g*)

My primary entertainment is a sort of series of AUs of characters I made up when I was 9, or earlier (timing theory based on how a bit of the original canon is structured). New things I find out, or media I consume, get incorporated into existing branches or spawn new ones.

Also when brainstorming about writing I tend to slide into thinking about this series totally unintentionally. (And also when showering, when falling asleep, when walking down the street, when knitting...) I blame it for why I don't have more actually finished fanworks.

I've never really thought about it as a fandom, but I guess it is, if a fandom can have one person being the creator and all the fans and consumers at the same time. Anyway, that's why I answered those questions at the end as all "yes".

I don't think of myself as "fannish," but if you're going to get all technical on me, then yes, I guess I am. Sort of. It's Complicated.

I don't even have a clue what constitutes "fannish", so answering the poll is skewed, if not impossible, for those who aren't...

Yep. My usual preliminary reaction to the word "fannish" is "run away in the other direction quickly" (doubly if it's capitalized). I like derivative works but generally not the culture surrounding it.

Honestly my problem is not fandom, it's the fact that my fandom just does not plain exist. I mean, I write fic that, three years later, is still on the FIRST PAGE of the results for FFN. For the larger ones (like Star Wars, how much do I love the sheer size of that fandom, I can't tell you!) I will read AU and canon-compliant and like almost anything in between, though if it's not canon-compliant I prefer the 'what if X went differently' to 'set story in other place/age'.
