argh

Sometimes it's easy to ignore how one is a minority religion in a Christian-majority country.

Today is not one of those times.

None of my friends have done anything remotely, you know, actually oppressive today. That doesn't make the sudden barrage of Easter stuff any less of a reminder that the US is run by the Christians, even though it's theoretically secular.

... okay, so maybe that thing about eggs and rabbits not being in any way Jesusy was a bit cluelessly *something*. Eggs and rabbits are holdovers from the pagan spring stuff, duh. Of course they're not Jesusy.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are doing a thing later. I'm supposed to go. I think it would be fun, despite the Easteriness, because it's the Sisters. My sleep schedule has me on the verge of tears at the thought of going out. I'm not parking at the guys' place and leaving my car. I don't feel safe parking in their neighborhood after the way my car was wrongfully towed and then the broken window. Parking and then leaving -- no. Just no. And transit is a pain, and while neither Google Maps nor Bing knows what to do with Samtrans, the fact that my phone lost the map update *again* is not making me happy either.

Four hours of sleep is not enough. I hate the whole world.

If I sleep all day, when I wake up it'll be time for work. Work is nice.

I think I was about 9 when I decided that someone had obviously scrambled the Christmas and Easter symbolism, because eggs-and-bunnies obviously belonged with the "new birth" holiday and the trees-and-gifts obviously belonged with the "died-for-us" holiday. The explanations I got to explain these were less than satisfying, and probably pushed me on my way to Paganism.

I am avoiding the Easter games today, except for prepping to buy half-price chocolate and marshmallow things tomorrow. Am going to a staff meeting for ForbiddenFiction, wherein we will format ebooks, sort out anthology details, and brainstorm database structural changes.

I use 511.org for planning public transit trips. It's got its own problems (is incapable of coping with "get me to the CLOSEST BART STATION and then look for buses; I don't care if a perfectly-timed bus route from two earlier stations would be faster; I want the station that's 3/4 mile from my final destination.") but is pretty good.

I generally compensate for 511's quirks by excluding providers (because I often optimize for "cheapest", this means excluding BART, but can also be used for other tricks) and piecing together itineraries (e.g. if it's not doing what I want it to, I'll ask it to generate a trip from Closest Bart Station to Final Destination and put things together myself).

The routing is sometimes lolariously bad, but at least it has like, every public transit agency in the area.

Yeah, the mobile site isn't all that great, but I guess for that kind of functionality there are limits to how much they can pare it down especially when including an interactive map.

If you want to go with Credo this time around (if you're not yet at your contract's upgrade point), I'd be happy to discuss/refer :)

I was fortunate enough to only discover it was easter well after waking up this morning.

Sure, I like eggs and bunnies and stuff -- I'm glad they have a day to themselves (what's all this jesus stuff about?), but that is hardly an excuse for peeps to only be sold a couple of times a year. That's the unsung travesty here. #dubiousculinaryopinions

peeps

I'm pretty sure I saw Winter themed peeps (snowmen, etc) at my local Meijer store last December. So that's twice a year, anyways. I agree with you about the travesty part.

Easter is just an excuse to eat chocolate and not feel guilty ;)

I think it's really bizarre that the US seems a lot more religion-minded than the UK, despite the fact that the US is supposedly secular and the UK has its own church with the Queen at the head.

I am sorry the sleeping proved problematic :( But I'm glad you were able to come, and it was good to see you!

Our neighborhood is terrible and I do apologize for the various car misfortunes, because ugh.
