I hate that breastfeeding study. Correlation != causality.

More likely, the moms who were *able* to breastfeed longer were able to do so because they took extra time off of work for maternity leave or took an unpaid sabbatical [or just plain quit work] so that they could raise their child. That extra time makes it a hell of a lot easier to breastfeed.

It's more that choosing to take the time off (meaning choosing to take the financial hit) allows for better opportunities to breastfeed, not that automatically choosing to breastfeed means that you're going to earn less as an employee.

If you're planning on staying home *anyway* to raise your children, nursing is less expensive than formula feeding. But if you're still working, the cost of a pump, bottles, etc. is still going to add up.
