Oh, in your country is religion a *private* thing, not talked about much in public?
In a number of Western European countries, the majority perception is that religion shouldn't occur in the open, where children could see it and ask questions their parents can't or don't want to answer. Kinda like same-sex PDAs in some places. (I find both attitudes sad, FWIW.)

I can see the grounds for that opinion, and as far as personal taste is concerned, I would agree, about pushy PDRs at least, but I find the passive-aggressive (or sometimes active *cough*France*cough*) attempt to sweep it all under the rug/shame it out of public view far more disturbing not the inherent (or perceived) tastefulness of specific PDRs or PDAs.

I like that the extremely religious as seen as nutjobs here. It says good things about my country's ability to apply rational thinking. :o)

I mean, I'm a moderately religious person myself, but I'm also fully aware that it's all bunk.

That's as it may be, but I think Azz was asking about discouraging visible religion qua se, which is a different debate. (At least, that's how I read and answered her question, but ICBW.)

Well, she was replying to my tweet about being trapped on a train (broken points, was stuck stationary for half an hour on my way home) while a couple of Americans discussed the meaning of stuff out of the Bible in the most ridiculously over the top manner - "Oh, wow! I'm just SO EXCITED!" after re-translating the bit about doing unto others. People conducting public Bible study groups are considered extremely religious (and therefor nutjobs) over here, at least in my experience.
