The proper length for a kilt, at least, is one such that it won't get muddy when you're on one knee in front of the monarch.

At least according to the idea of Scottish dress which was basically invented by people like Walter Scott and had no real link to what had gone before.

Sadly, no. The kind of kilt that rule applied to was well after Scotland was domesticated and broken.

The old-style kilt was banned during the Highland Clearances as part of an attempt at cultural genocide. Fast-forward to the Victorians, who had a revival in 'Scottish culture', which included them creating an entirely new idea of the kilt.

The traditional idea of Scottish culture was largely made up, but most people - even here - aren't really aware of it.

Having said that, we did watch guys in kilts beating each other with swords and axes last night. :oD

I absolutely do 1227. Too much, in fact...I'm having to start to trim back my list.

So is there a place to tell LJ that their iPhone detection fails? Most sites do manage if it affects content, with the notable exception of PG&E's outage page - particularly annoying since, if I need to look at the outage page, the iPhone is the only way to get there.
