Big fucking milestone!

DOMA was struck down. Prop 8 was returned to Judge Walker's smackdown.

I got about two hours of sleep, so I was awake when the decisions came in. I logged a couple hours of work while I was up, then took a nap.

Then I headed out to the Castro.

I had done that thing where I make Very Ambitious Plans the night before, but this time I followed through a little better than usual. Yay energy. I figured that I should have some sort of sign to mark the occasion. I figured I'd stop in at Home Depot for one of those wooden stakes to use as a handle.

I failed to find the sort of stake I was looking for, but I did see a cheap and reasonably sized fencepost. In my search for colorful duct tape, I saw something else and had a brilliant idea.

Back at home, I (as quietly as possible) began assembling my master sign, as this will see me through a gracious plenty of events.

The blank corrugated plastic yard sign was centered on the fencepost, and then secured in place with short wide nails punched through tin caps, to better distribute the nail's effect on the plastic sheet over a larger area of it. (Hammering this was the loudest part, but was over very quickly.) Then I took everything and a trash bag out to the patio, where I sprayed the back side (fencepost and entire back of the sign). I waited fifteen minutes, give or take, for the paint to dry, flipped it, and did the front side of the handle.

I had been intending to secure my existing foamcore board and then poster board to the front of the plastic, but I couldn't resist embellishing it a bit, and then I figured that for this event, I could just go meta, and it could get re-use throughout the sign's lifetime.

Lacking painter's tape, I used some paper medical tape to outline a triangle, and then sprayed pink inside it. It came out really pink after it dried.

Before leaving in the afternoon, I took the transparent duct tape and wrapped it around the handle, to provide a more comfortable, and splinter-free, grip. The effect was ... rather more phallic than I'd been intending, which amused the fuck out of me.

Wearing my rainbow scarf tied to my belt, my Sparkly Awesome necklace (new for the occasion, put together from those rainbow fluorite beads I've been meaning to do something with, plus some transparent rainbow-"aura" beads), and my Pride Hat, I headed off via the 28 and M to Castro Street Station, where I eventually met up with JD and some of the Gaymers.

It was big. It was loud. There was a lot of milling around and chattering and waving signs and taking pictures and smiling at everybody. I cut a striking figure, and no few people snapped pictures of me/with me.

JD's plan for afterwards included dinner and Frameline. I was up for that, so that we did, via some muni-ing around. It was lovely fun, and then we went back on BART. I was craving a chocolate milkshake all of a sudden, so I grabbed one on the way home.
