A slightly lesser pledge:

John Scalzi recently made a pledge that he will not attend a convention without a harassment policy.

There are many reasons this does not work for everyone.

With that in mind, I might as well articulate what I can do, would do anyway, and don't mind committing to:

I will prioritize conventions with acceptable conduct/harassment policies over those without.

If a convention I would like to attend does not have one, I will ask if they can implement one.

If I am helping organize a convention in whatever small a way, I will advocate for the implementation of such a policy, or any improvements I can identify to an existing policy, if one already exists.

If the event is already covered by an overriding policy, such as a work event covered by the workplace code of conduct, I will advocate to highlight the existence and continued applicability of this policy.

I have signed it with disclaimers: that I will adopt this for conventions and conferences I am attending only for personal reasons, but cannot afford to do so for conferences I need to attend professionally.

On the other hand, tonight I have got in touch with the two major international conferences I will be attending over the next five years and requested that they let me know what their existing policies are, and linked them to examples - and as for the national conference, the community is small enough and I am sufficiently well-connected that I can probably get people to include documents on the website if I send them in. So. Them's my thoughts.

I hadn't thought of it that way. That said, it's highly unlikely that I will ever need to attend an SF con on a professional level, since my novels lean more towards adventure/romance than they do towards SF, even if there's a bit of the fantastical involved.

And no one in their right mind is going to ask me to be on a panel or do any other sort of getting up in front of a crowd. Trust me [g].
