The requisite parental tech support

While Mama is rarely on the bleeding edge of tech, sometimes I can help.

* If you hear about an iOS update hosing apps, try googling for "iOS # crash" and the app name of the apps you use. If there are no reports about that, you may be okay to upgrade.
* When googling for partial song lyrics or other fuzzy input results where you'll know the right one when you see it, try seeing what the wrong results have in common that isn't in the right results, and filtering it out.
* To filter search engine results, try the following:
"right bit 1" "right bit 2" rightword -wrong -wronger -wrongest

My mother is still slightly unsure what I do at work and/or what Virtual Hammer makes. I may or may not have been able to clarify.

That sounds like the dealing with people that I do regularly. Although some of mine are much more paranoid about the technology.

Mama has become much less nervous in general about technology. It makes me happy.

Ah, I do parental support as well so it all sounds pretty familiar. And my mother doesn't understand what I do at all. But I recently heard my father-in-law describe my work as "... like a fixer, but for websites", which is pretty brilliant. Wrong but brilliant.
